Swashbuckling batsman Virat Kohli smashed a scintillating 7th double hundred and his career-best 254 in Pune as India piled on 601 for 5 on Day 2 of second Test against South Africa.
On the course, the ‘run-machine’ also set a slew of records. With his 7th double ton, Kohli went past Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar for the most double hundreds in Test cricket by an Indian.
Virat Kohli is now joint 4th in the list of most double centuries in Tests with Wally Hammond of England and Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka. Only Don Bradman (12), Kumar Sangakkara (11) and Brian Lara (9) have more Test double hundreds than Kohli.
Not just this, the Indian captain also crossed the 7000-run mark in Test cricket, becoming the 3rd fastest Indian to the feat after Virender Sehwag (134) and Sachin Tendulkar (136).
Indian captain Virat Kohli ended his 2019 Test century drought by scoring a sparkling hundred in Pune on Friday to put the hosts on top vs South Africa in the ongoing 2nd Test. In doing so, Kohli not just scored his 26th Test century but soon also brought up his 150.
Kohli also surpassed Australian legend Don Bradman as the captain with most scores of 150 and above and equaled former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting’s record of scoring the most number of centuries as Test captain.

Kohli’s record-breaking innings helped India declare at 601 for 5 before Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami broke the backbone of the South African batting line-up. By stumps, South Africa were 36 for 3, trailing India by 565 runs.
